SSE fined record £10.5m by Ofgem

Energy supplier SSE has been fined £10.5m by the regulator Ofgem for mis-selling gas and electricity.

The fine is the largest ever imposed on an energy supplier by Ofgem.

In its statement, Ofgem said SSE, formerly known as Scottish and Southern Energy, was guilty of management failures that led to “prolonged and extensive” mis-selling.

SSE said it was “deeply regretful” about the mis-selling, and apologised to its customers.

The mis-selling related to telephone, in-store and doorstep sales, Ofgem said.

As good as it was to read this; I would like to think someone at Ofgem is looking into how the energy suppliers like SSE, are constantly raising their prices at ridiculous rates without any justification.

Wait a minute I’ve had an epiphany, as a result of their high prices the SSE sales department obviously had a meeting and thought how can we sell at these prices, I know we’ll use the tried and tested sales technique of lying through our back teeth.

If firms like SSE want to avoid big fines and the negative pr that incidents like this will bring, bit of advice, lower your prices that way your sales people won’t have to bulls**t to customers, and in-turn customers might think hmmm they’re prices are reasonable maybe I’ll  switching to them.
