Google and Microsoft agree steps to block abuse images

Leading search engine companies Google and Microsoft have agreed measures to make it harder to find child abuse images online.

As many as 100,000 search terms will now return no results that find illegal material, and will trigger warnings that child abuse imagery is illegal.

PM David Cameron has welcomed the move but said it must be delivered or he would bring forward new legislation.

While I’m sceptical as to how many people use the big two to search for abuse images, at least Google and Microsoft have seen the bigger picture and worked together to introduce a block.

However, more should be done to track down and find those who use hidden and encrypted websites that account for part of the 5% of search traffic that doesn’t involve Google and Bing.

But anything that could help in any way to stop/discourage people accessing that kind of thing should be welcomed.
