Town in US orders residents to own a gun

Every household in the town of Nelson in the US state of Georgia has been ordered to own a gun.

A new law just passed by the local council makes it mandatory for the head of every household to possess a firearm and ammunition.

The vote was unanimous. “We’re making a statement,” said city council member Jackie Jarrett. “If you plan on doing us harm, we'll be armed.”

However it seems the council has no plans to enforce the law. Instead it is intended more as a deterrent - and anyone who objects to the law can opt out of it.

I’ve spent a fair bit of time looking at all the angles and trying, on any level possible, to understand the rationale behind this law, but I’m drawing blanks (sorry).

This we’re making a statement comment is amusing to say the least, yes Jackie Jarrett you are making a statement, you’re letting the rest of the world know that the council in Nelson are bats**t crazy and have lost touch with reality.

What makes this even worse, is that there is no way for the law to be enforced so if you don’t want to own a gun you don’t have to.

There are many ways to tackle the issue of gun violence, but forcing everyone to have a gun really isn’t the way forward.

Think about it the more guns that are in circulation the more likely it is for a shooting to occur, which under this logic would mean more guns in circulation, which would mean..............................

Why not try a more sensible solution that has a cat in hells chance of working, have proper back ground checks on not just on the buyers but the sellers as well, wouldn’t that be a better place to start.
