SSE customers will see an average 8.2% rise in
gas and electricity prices from 15 November, the company has announced.
The energy firm said the rise reflected higher costs of buying wholesale
energy and paying to deliver it to customers' homes, plus government levies.
SSE's average annual standard
dual-fuel energy bill will rise to £1,224, and affect about 4.4 million
electricity customers and 2.9 million gas customers, not including those on
fixed-price tariffs.
Surprise surprise an energy giant
has announced a huge rise in their prices, so now that SSE is the first to set
a marker let’s see what kind of price rises the others announce in the next few
weeks/months.
In fairness to SSE they have pledged
not to raise prices again until around this time next year so well done them, everybody a round of applause for the generosity shown by SSE . . . . .
Judging by this announcement the
other energy giants will no doubt increase their prices by the same sort of
amount, yesterday the government announced it was capping rail fare increases
maybe now they could switch their attention to capping energy prices.
Last year they increased by
6%-10.8% depending on whom your supplier was, this year will be the same and
next year the same, and so on.
If there is one industry that needs
its prices capping it’d be difficult to look past the energy industry.
