Adnan Januzaj undecided on which country to represent

Manchester United teenager Adnan Januzaj is not ready to make a decision on his international future, according to Belgium coach Marc Wilmots.

The 18-year-old scored twice on his full debut as United came from behind to beat Sunderland 2-1 on Saturday.

Uncapped Januzaj is eligible for the country of his birth, Belgium, as well as Albania, Turkey or Serbia.

Watching how Roy Hodgson, and a lot of other English coaches, pundits etc. have talked about this kid since the game on Saturday really showed me how desperate we are in this country.

He’s made five appearances and just one start for United, and yet everybody’s already talking about how we can make it so that this kid can play for England it’s ridiculous.

And the fact that so much is being made of it is equally ridiculous; the chances of him playing for England are absolutely minimal, under the current rules Januzaj wouldn’t be eligible for to play for England until 2018, and I highly doubt he’ll wait that long.

I think everybody in English football really needs to calm down and stop going so overboard when a kid has one good game.

It’s becoming the norm now and it’s just wrong, every time a young player has a good game and there’s a one in a million chance he might be eligible for England there’s a national campaign to make it so.

What happened to the idea, which seems to have been phased out, that young players should perform consistently for at least a year before they’re considered for a call-up; I know I’ve slightly drifted from the point where I started but oh well.

Throwing youngsters into the national set-up at 17 or 18 when they’ve only played 15-20 games is too much too soon, granted there will be a player every now and again who is good enough to skip a few steps ahead but that is a rarity.

If you look some of England’s best players over the last 20-25 years a significant majority of them didn’t get their first cap until after they’d turned 21, and had a few years of experience behind them.

Although Januzaj has yet to choose which country to represent, I think the debate about him possible playing for England needs to stop because it ain’t gonna happen, and it makes us look bad.
