Magistrates
are to debate whether do away with the swearing of oaths on the Bible and other
holy books in courts in England and Wales.
Instead there would be a
statement in which people would promise “very sincerely” to tell the
truth.
I’m glad that this is
to be debated as it amazes me in 2013 that people who go to court and give
evidence still have to swear to Almighty God, it’s ridiculous.
I highly doubt swearing
an oath to a fictional deity will compel you be more honest in the evidence
that you give.
While they’re at it
maybe magistrates could also put an end to having to wear those stupid wigs in
court as well.
