Jose Mourinho accused West Ham of playing “19th-century
football”, after his Chelsea side were
held 0-0 in Wednesday's league encounter.
The Blues had 39 efforts on goal, while the visitors
only managed one, having spent most of the match defending.
“This is not the best league in the world, this is football
from the 19th century,” said Mourinho.
Now I agree with Mourinho in the sense that
everywhere Sam Allardyce goes his gets his teams to play negative
anti-football, but as much as I admire and respect Mourinho his teams don’t
exactly whet your appetite.
Which is frustrating because when they do have to
chase a game, like they had to against Liverpool; they played some great
football which makes you wonder why they don’t do it more often.
With these comments in mind it will be interesting to
see how Mourinho sets Chelsea up when they play City at the Etihad on Monday,
can’t really see them doing anything other than a more tactically astute
version of what West Ham did to them.
